As a digital compositing artist, I was thrilled when FX approached Hinge to work on What We Do in the Shadows Season 3, Episode 7, “The Siren.”

Our team was tasked with compositing the video by blending the background and characters, and integrating the New York skyline into the episode’s boating scene.

Our first step was to ensure that the characters and the cityscape blended seamlessly together in the video. We used advanced compositing techniques to match the lighting, shadows, and colors between the live-action footage and the 3D model of the New York skyline. This helped to create a convincing illusion of the characters being in the city.

Integrating the New York skyline into the episode’s boating sequence was another significant challenge that required attention to detail and a deep understanding of the show’s visual style. We meticulously recreated the skyline using a combination of 3D modeling and compositing techniques, ensuring that it blended seamlessly with the live-action footage.
